Words With Friends Scammer Daniel Deneese



Creating this to help a friend who was scammed by a criminal they met through the Words With Friends app. The victim was groomed over a couple months in late 2021 before the demands for money began. This fraud has since been reported to authorities.

The scammer was using the identity of Daniel Deneese, claiming to be with the American army based in Pakistan or Afganistan. 

No one by that name exisits in the DFAS or Veterans databases.


Scammer Details

These are the FAKE details used by the scammer when contacting the victim. If you're contacted by someone using any of this information there's a very strong likelihood that they're a scammer trying to take advantage of you or someone you know.

Images this Scammer is Using

The military ID provided to the victim is fake. The number is a virtual Google Voice number used by the scammer to authenticate their fake WhatsApp accounts. I have no idea whether the person in the photos is involved in the came, I would be happy to hear form them (or someone who knows them) if they see this.

(NB I roughly "watermarked" the images so that no one else could grab them and use them to scam more victims.)

The Challenges of Reporting Scammers

Convincing my friend that they’d been scammed was very challenging - despite the scam being a textbook Words With Friends military romance scam .   Unfortunately reporting internet scammers, especially romance scammers can also be a very frustrating experience.   You can report the scammer to local, regional or national police, but they usually don’t have any jurisdiction, or enough evidence or interest to do anything about the scam.
