Convincing my friend that they’d been scammed was very challenging - despite the scam being a textbook Words With Friends military romance scam .   Unfortunately reporting internet scammers, especially romance scammers can also be a very frustrating experience.   You can report the scammer to local, regional or national police, but they usually don’t have any jurisdiction, or enough evidence or interest to do anything about the scam. Better than doing nothing I suppose, and in this case the reporting process helped the victim come to terms with having been manipulated and scammed. Identifying Fake Military ID

An important factor for a scammer to convince their victim of their false identity is showing them a piece of official looking ID. Since many scams involve claiming to be with the American army (or other branch of the military) fake military ID is usually shared with the victim.  Fake military ID used by Words with Friends scammer Daniel Deneese (deneesedaniel) to establish credibility with his victim.   I looked at the false ID my friend was sent and decided it was false for a number of graphical reasons. I shared the same image with a friend who was associated with the military and got a completely different set of reasons why it was fake. Words With Friends Scammer Daniel Deneese

Creating this to help a friend who was scammed by a criminal they met through the Words With Friends app. The victim was groomed over a couple months in late 2021 before the demands for money began. This fraud has since been reported to authorities. The scammer was using the identity of Daniel Deneese, claiming to be with the American army based in Pakistan or Afganistan.  No one by that name exisits in the  DFAS or Veterans databases . Scammer Details These are the FAKE details used by the scammer when contacting the victim.
